Letter of intention about the reason you are choosing Riad Jardin Secret.
At the core of my identity is a deep well of love for travel and experiences centered around botanical exploration. From each trip planned and executed, I glean a deeper understanding of place, people and the natural world. Currently, I am most fascinated with desert landscapes. I’ve recently returned from multiple trips through the American southwest and wish to expand these experiences into new places. I am in awe of the astounding plant, color and textural palette that flourish in our world’s deserts. I discovered Riad Jardin Secret while doing research specifically on Morocco.
I am intrigued by your accomplishments and unique story and believe we share the desire for authentic experience. I have spent much time contemplating your artist in residency program and feel that the overarching Moroccan mentality and the creative space that RJS provides would be an ideal place for me to slow down, step away from my busy bi-city business and explore more deeply my love for botanical sculpture. Riad, as you know, is an Arabic term meaning garden or meadow, lies at the heart of my intentions.
My long term goal is to create a visual book about exploring new spaces, meeting new people, collecting natural materials and creating works of botanical art, as well as the stories that develop alongside them. Riad Jardin Secret offers a perfect space to create artwork, as well as content for this ongoing project. I would be honored to collaborate with Cyrielle to photograph this particular work and experience for the book, as I feel her unique photography also tells a story of your own experience.
In addition, the riad provides a community of guests to meet and share experience with. I would love to offer your riad community/guests a botanical or floral workshop. I believe this workshop would provide them with an elevated and unique experience during their stay, and I would love to meet them and share that time together.
I would be honored to be selected as an artist in residence and know that the experience would be creatively stimulating and mutually enriching.
